As the first physical establishment in a market with significant potential for Spanish wines, Bodegas Langa’s entrance in China is a milestone in its business strategy.

Bodegas Langa and its partner in China Ted Lin opened its first store in Xiamen, China, last May 2023. The family-owned business, which has a more than 150-year tradition of producing premium wines under the Denomination of Origin Calatayud, decided to take this step in response to an increasingly growing demand from the Chinese public. The establishment, located in the commercial heart of the city, offers a wide selection of its products, and has a space for tastings where customers can discover the unique characteristics of its wines, its production process or even the centenary philosophy of the company.

With this first store, Ted Lin and Bodegas Langa aim to bring Spanish wine culture closer to customers who enjoy their products, which combine modernity and tradition while capturing the essence of the Calatayud vineyards.

Ted Lin is the exclusive importer of Langa wines in this country since he started his business relationship with the wineries back in 2013. In addition to being an entrepreneur who knows all the ins and outs of marketing in China, he completely fell in love with the wines and the philosophy of this family business. They are united by values such as innovation, tradition, sacrifice, design and quality, very similar to those of Chinese culture, so a fluid and fruitful collaborative relationship was immediately established.

After 10 years of hard work and a pandemic in between, Bodegas Langa fulfilled a dream a few weeks ago and opened an emblematic space for the family in the Asian market with the support of Ted Lin. He tells us about it in this interview.

When was the Bodegas Langa Store inaugurated and what will be the main goal of this location?

The opening date was May 1, 2023. Our goal is to make this establishment a venue to promote the Langa family’s products in China, as well as a place where the Chinese public can taste its wines and enjoy a pleasant experience, closer to the brand and its history. Naturally, since it is the location of Bodegas Langa’s China headquarters, it will also be where business meetings are scheduled and clients are welcomed.

What results are you expecting?

Xiamen is a coastal city located in the province of Fujian and therefore represents a privileged geographical location to plan an expansion throughout China. We anticipate that the opening of this office will be the first step in introducing the Langa family wines to all the counties and cities in China, and we are very excited about it. Our aim is to popularize Langa wines in this country and to make people fall in love with their flavors.

Why did you choose the Langa family for this project?

The Langa family is one of the most representative wineries in Spain. It has been able to transmit the value of its brand while exhibiting steady and vigorous growth from 1867 to the present via five generations. The quality of the wine, the packaging, the design, have the indispensable requirements to grow in China. Without a doubt, it seems to us an exceptional project and worthy of promotion.

What prospects do you foresee for Spanish wine in China?

Spanish wine is the ideal contender since Chinese consumers want to experience new, pleasant flavors with a good quality-price ratio. Without a doubt, our collaboration with Bodegas Langa will help us to stand out in the Chinese wine market in the coming years.
